in which Fidelity International has an office such as: Kent, Surrey, London as well as its office locations overseas.
Sectors that meet our investment focus
Although we do not set quotas, our charitable investments are primarily allocated to the following sectors:
- Arts and culture
- Community development
- Education
- Health
Types of Projects
Because our goal is to help strengthen charitable organisations, we seek to support the types of projects that such organisations undertake to achieve their goals and reach long-term self-sufficiency. We have found that our resources can be most productive with charitable organisations taking significant measures to reach greater levels of proficiency. Most often, this entails major projects such as:
- capital improvements
- technology upgrades
- organisational development
- planning initiatives
Assessment of the Organisation
Beyond our basic guidelines, we review an organisation to determine whether our collaboration and investment can add value. Among the factors we consider are:
- the organisation’s financial health
- the strength of its management team and board
- evidence of an overall strategic plan
We also look at the size and scope of an organisation, evaluating its position within the context of its market and the needs of the constituents it serves. This analysis helps us evaluate if a grant has the realistic potential to measurably improve a charitable organisation’s impact in its sector.
Potential for Success
Like an investor, we ultimately seek to understand the potential returns of a project: Will it work? What will it achieve? In evaluating its potential for success, we seek evidence of:
- institutional commitment to the project on behalf of the organisation’s board
- a realistic project budget
- a thorough implementation plan, including a plan for performance measurement
- net value to the organisation and the community it serves
- significant support from other funders, among other criteria
